Sammy Hagar Wants To Bring His Own Island To Las Vegas

If there’s something Las Vegas could use more of, it’s Sammy Hagar.
Hagar’s popular Cabo Wabo Cantina at the Miracle Mile shops in Planet Hollywood is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. And now Hagar thinks it’s time to bring even more of that beach flair to Sin City.
Hagar recently opened his Cabo Wabo Beach Club in Huntington Beach, California. It’s doing so well that the legendary rocker is already looking to expand. Since the Cabo Wabo Cantina has been so successful on the Las Vegas Strip, it just makes sense to bring his next venture here.
Sammy’s Island Resort
The new venue would be called Sammy’s Island. Besides the beach vibe of his Huntington club, Hagar has some other ideas for his new place. He wants to develop his Cabo Wabo Resort into a fully functional, one stop shop for Hagar fans in Las Vegas.
That means a little bit beach club, a lit bit casino. Hagar knows he can’t (and wouldn’t want to ) compete with the big casinos on the strip. So, he just wants to offer a little bit of playing options for his patrons. But the main focus sounds like it would be on what Hagar does best: rocking out.
Hagar told themusicuniverse.com that he would love to build a theater at his new club that he could use to perform his catalog of hits. Patrons would be able to dance to songs like “I Can’t Drive 55” and “There’s Only One Way To Rock”. His band, The Circle, would undoubtedly be a staple there. So Las Vegans could pop in to hang with the likes of Michael Anthony, Vic Johnson and Jason Bonham.
In addition to live music, Hagar wants to offer his guests accommodations and a 24-hour menu of food and drinks. And of course, it would all be poolside. In an interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Hagar said he just has so many friends in Sin City, he wants a fully-realized place they can all hang out.
Yep. We’re down with that.
Van Halen, Led Zeppelin And More At Sammy Hagar Concert
Sammy Hagar and The Circle are coming to Las Vegas this summer.
Hagar was just in Vegas last year. He performed his solo show at a residency at the STRAT. Now he’s back with his band, The Circle, to rock out for one night only. The show is going to be at Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort on July 15th.
The band line-up is star-studded.
Hagar is bringing with him Vic Johnson (guitar), Michael Anthony (bass) and Jason Bonham (drums). Johnson is known for his work with The Busboys and Hagar’s former band, The Waboritas. Before that he was a session musician and a member of the heavy metal band Sound Barrier.
Of course we know Michael Anthony best for his work with Van Halen. He was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his tenure as bassist. He met Hagar during that Van Hagar era of Van Halen and the two have been working on and off ever since.
Then we have Jason Bonham. Son of the legendary John Bonham. Like his late father before him, Jason Bonham has played drums for Led Zeppelin for several years. Jason is one of those savant kids. He’s been rocking the drum kit since he was five years old. Definitely an awesome addition to The Circle.
When it comes to the setlist, get ready for some rocking variety.
Since Sammy Hagar and The Circle has members from Led Zepplin, Van Halen and Montrose, you can expect hits from all three bands. Additionally, Hagar will bring some of his solo hits to the stage. It’s going to be like four concerts in one. And it’s going to be awesome. Grab your tickets (or win them this week on KKLZ) and get ready to move. Here’s what you can look forward to. – Wendy
