‘Scale The STRAT’ Is Back To Benefit American Lung Association
On Sunday, February 26, hundreds of climbers of all abilities will climb 1,455 steps and 108 floors to the top of the iconic STRAT Hotel Casino and Skypod. And it’s all to benefit the American Lung Association in Nevada. The Scale The STRAT event is one of the American Lung Association’s signature “Fight for Air” climbs and raises money for the nonprofit’s lung health education, advocacy and research efforts.
History And Mission
This is an incredibly fun and unique event, but it is also a huge fundraiser. Over the years, since the first climb in 2008 this climb as raised $2.8 million to support the mission of the American Lung Association. It is the American Lung Association’s major fundraiser of the year for Nevada.
Las Vegas has some of the worst air quality in the nation. That puts all residents at risk for lung disease. Lung cancer is actually the number one cancer killer in Nevada. Scale The STRAT is helping by being part of the solution. More than 230,000 Nevada residents have asthma, but the American Lung Association is actively working to make each of their lives a little easier.
ANYONE Can Scale The STRAT
The American Lung Association has had climbers from all walks of life. Some with lung disease, all the way to professional stair climbers. These “elite climbers” can Scale The STRAT in about 7 minutes or so. Scale The STRAT is a timed event, and official finish line photos will be available online after the climb. As always, climbers will be scheduled in heats every 15 minutes. Climbers will enter the stairwell one by one, with a staggered start.
