At this point it seems as if there is a new slang term for something, everyday. The site Unscramblerer.com did all the work, to find the most searched for slang words in Las Vegas.
Research was conducted by word finding experts at Unscramblerer. They analyzed January 1, 2024 through October 25, 2024, by searching data from Google Trends for terms related to slang words.
Slang Words And Terms Have Been Around Forever
Every year new slang words are created. A lot come from trending topics and viral videos on social media. A few manage to stick around long enough to be added to the dictionary, and stay in our daily use for decades. Slang words are a normal, and have always been a fun evolution of language. Everyone should learn and know new slang words. Impress your kids, and grandkids by using them. Ok, they might laugh, but if they do, tell them to “buzz off”! Yeah – they’ll love that.
Nevada, and all of Americas most popular slang terms, can be discovered in Google Trends through the keyword ‘meaning’. People hear or read a slang term, and search for the meaning of the term. For example: ‘Demure meaning.’ Several variations of meanings are searchable. Like ‘slang’ or ‘trend’. For example: ‘demure slang’ or ‘what does demure mean’. They added up 150 search variations of top slang terms.

1. Demure: reserved, modest or shy in manner or appearance. TikTok user Jools Lebron made a bunch of viral videos using the phrase “very demure”. It brougth a lot of attention to the word, and gave it a playful slang meaning. She used it describe makeup and fashion choices in different settings.
2. Sigma: This refers to an independent, self-reliant person who doesn’t go with the normal, or traditional social hierarchies. Also called a ‘lone wolf.’ Good or bad, that’s up to that person.
3. Skibidi: I’ve heard dozens of kids use the word, and I’ve watched the videos. They are a huge viral internet trend featuring surreal, animated videos of singing toilets and bizarre dancing heads. Huge on TikTok.
4. Hawk Tuah: It’s supposed to be what a spitting sound sounds like. It came from a viral street interview conducted over the summer with Haliey Welch. She said her signature for making a man go crazy, was to ‘give him that hawk tuah – know what? YOU can look it up…
5. Rizz: This has been around for a while, and I think it will stick around. Rizz is short for charisma, and it means style, or charm. The ability to attract a romantic partner and make others like you takes rizz!
6. Schmaltz: Excessive sentimentality or melodrama. Too much sappiness in a movie, or music? Schmaltzy!
7. Preen: A kid trying to act older. Wearing makeup, and clothes that make them appear more mature. Birds preen their feathers to stay fresh and clean. Along the same lines with kids, teens, etc.
8. Based – Rapper Lil B made this popular. It means being yourself and not caring what others think. You can use it to give props to someone for comfortably, and confidently being themselves.
And since I just used the word “props” from the 80’s, it’s probably time for me to bounce!
