Millennial Terms Like YOLO And LMFAO Are Lame: 10 New Gen Z Terms
Millennials terms, and acronyms, are basically old and tired now, according to Gen Z.
Millennials Terms Like YOLO And LMFAO Are Lame According To Your Gen Z’er
A poll of Gen Z’ers (age 11 – 26) looked at trendy Millennial (age 28 – 43) – terms that are already just basically cheugy, at this point. There are a lot of new things you should be saying now instead, if you want to seem cool.
The old millennial term, “YOLO” is now “DIFTP,” short for “Do It for the Plot.” And you can stop calling crazy people “cray.” They’re “delulu,” short for delusional. Yes, I know – keep up!
If you’re over 40 and use any of these terms, your kids will never forgive you. And they’ll make you drop them off a mile away – forever!
A really fun – and colorful – piece was done by Currys UK. Gen Z’ers were polled, and asked to name the most outdated acronyms they think are just “cringe” now. For example, “LOL” is number one. If you text it to someone in their early 20s, they’ll think you’re a Boomer, even if you’re not!
Ditch The Millennial Terms For Gen Z Speak
1. Ditch the millennial term “YOLO!” It’s now “DIFTP”. This means “Do It for the Plot”. You’re the main character in your life, so don’t avoid things. Do what it takes to move your story along. Just Do It! Which is probably also embarrassing for your kid to hear you say.
2. Instead of “KK,” go with “bet”. “KK” means okay, like you’re on board, and all in. “Bet” means the same thing. Short for “you bet.”
3. The millennial term “LMFAO” is so 2023. Try “IJBOL”. Short for “I just burst out laughing.”
4. Stop using “ROFL”. It’s short for “rolling on the floor laughing.” Instead, just send a skull emoji. Like it’s so funny, you just died laughing. Get it? A skull!
5. Crazy friends are not “cray” anymore. In 2024, they’re “delulu,” short for delusional. Say it with me: DE-LU-LU.
6. Diss. No more “dissing” someone. Now you’re just going to clapback! Make sure it is witty, and sharp though, because you’re clapping back at an insult or put down.
7. No More Fire. Yep, fire is already lame, so ditch it. “Lit” is back in style now. I mean you already know that if something is LIT, it’s gonna be good.
8. It’s not gross anymore. Although I, personally, believe that gross will never go out of style. But Now, it’s best to say “ick.” Yes, just a simple ick will do when referring to something that is – well – gross.
9. Such a Millennial Term: “What’s The 411?” Never say “give me the 411.” Honestly, no one under 40 knows that was the number for information, or directory assistance. Instead, say “spill the tea” or “what’s the tea.”
10. GR8. No – don’t shorten the word “great” by spelling it “G-R-8”. That’s just so Gen X! Say “that slaps.” Which basically means something that is enjoyable, or exceptional. Its origin is actually quite interesting.
Don’t be lame, millennial parents. Every generation has its own language – learn it!
