A lot of animal appreciation is happening this month. February 20 marks National Love Your Pet Day and February 22 is National Walk Your Dog Day. With this in mind, LawnStarter has ranked the best cities to walk your dog. They compared nearly 480 of the biggest U.S. cities based on four categories. Additionally, they looked at access to dog-friendly trails and off-leash parks with “paw-sitive” ratings, dog walking services, and safety, among 17 total metrics.
Las Vegas Marks Its Territory in The Top 10
According to the ranking, Las Vegas is the 9th best city for walking your dog. While not in the top spots, Reno (73), Henderson (227), Sparks (423), and North Las Vegas (451) made the list too.
A Look At Some Trails
City Dog Las Vegas compiled a list of the best places to walk your dog in Las Vegas. Whether you’re going for an early morning adventure with your pup or a late evening stroll they suggest embracing the city and all it has to offer for you and your dog. Their top three best dog parks are Desert Breeze Dog Park, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs.
The website points out that Desert Breeze Dog Park has a 24-acre park that offers a little bit of everything for dog lovers. This includes separate fenced areas for small and large dogs, a paved walking path, and shaded areas. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was highlighted for its various trails and many views. Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs is a 680-acre park with wildlife, it was highlighted for its lakes, vegetation, and views.
Other Findings
Also revealed by the ranking is that Western cities like Colorado Springs, San Francisco, and Phoenix are top places for pup-friendly trails. The ranking also pointed out that these cities have an abundance of paths for you and your dog to stroll.
The study also found that cities like Kansas City, Montgomery, Alabama, and Memphis, Tennessee, have the most poorly rated trails and high rates of pedestrian fatalities.
