Pepper X Becomes World’s New Hottest Pepper
When you look at the new Pepper X, you wouldn’t think it’s that spicy. But don’t let it’s looks deceive you. The pepper looks yellowish-green and has a wrinkly outside skin. Well this pepper is now the hottest pepper in the world, according to the Guinness World Records.
How New Is The Pepper X?
The pepper has actually existed for years. But why is it new? It’s because the Guinness World Records has finally weighed in on it to make it official. Previously, the Carolina Reaper held the record for the hottest pepper. It’s about 1.64 million Scoville Heat Unites, according to an article done by NPR.
Pepper X is almost double the Carolina Reaper’s heat. Pepper X comes in at 2.693 million Scoville Heat Units. If you’re wondering how hot that is, the jalapeño pepper is 2,000 to 8,000 SHUs. So,imagine what Pepper X is.
Ed Currie is the owner and founder of PuckerButt Pepper Company. They created the Caroline Reaper. Well now, they’ve come up with something more potent and scary.
Currie was officially handed the World Record from Guinness when he was a guest on the the popular YouTube Channel, Hot Ones. A channel where the host and the guest try different hot sauces on wings. They progressively get hotter and hotter. This is all done, while the host asks the guest questions about their life or profession.
Oh My God! I Feel It Through My Whole Body!
Currie was asked what it’s like to eat a Pepper X. The response was horrifying. Currie said in an interview with NPR, “There’s an intense burn that happens immediately. Then your head kind of feels like, “Oh no! What’s going on?” And then your body just starts reacting. You get it in your arms, you get in in your chest.”
Currie explained that most of peppers heat come from the seeds, but Pepper X’s heat comes from the white interior, which he calls the placenta. It actually holds the seeds. The outside of the pepper has a bumpy skin texture, which he says allows more space for the placenta to grow internally. That makes the heat more intense.
He said they created Pepper X over a decade ago, but only recently released it recently unto the world. Would you dare try this new pepper?
