California Woman Sues Restaurant Over Spicy Dragon Balls
When you go to eat Thai food, you already know you’re gonna have to deal with or choose on whether you want spicy or not. With this in mind, this woman might have chosen the wrong thing to eat at her local Thai restaurant.
A woman named Harjasleen Walia visited a Thai restaurant in California called Coup de Thai. A regular meal she thought would be ok, it turned into a nightmare!
What Happened?
Walia is suing the restaurant because she said the food was so spicy, it burned her. She visited the restaurant two years ago and said she ordered the Dragon Balls as an appetizer. The Dragon Balls were so spicy that it caused her to suffer chemical burns on her vocal chords, esophagus, and even inside her right nostril!
According to an article put out by Hoodline, the woman said that it’s not a joke at all. She claims her throat and voice “have incurred permanent injuries and will forever be damaged.”
To be fair to the restaurant, the dish was marked as spicy on the menu. She asked the server if they could make the Spicy Dragons Balls less spicy. They server said they could…but apparently it wasn’t made less spicy. She ended up with the severe reaction to what spice there was in it.
What Did The Restaurant Have To Say?
In response the woman suing them, writer, Nina Singh-Hudson reports that, the restaurant said they have never heard of their Dragon Balls being that hot and spicy. They even used the word EXTREME. No one else has ever had to have medical attention because of the balls.
Harjasleen is suing for unspecified damages, medical expenses, and also compensation for lost wages and earning. She is fighting that the restaurant failed to test the heat of their chilis they use, which she feels was “unfit for human consumption.”
The chilis used are said to be typically spicier than a cayenne peppers, but not as spicy as habanero peppers. A poison control physician was even asked to weigh in on the whole situation and said chilis can irritate the mouth and throat. It can even cause nausea and heartburn, but they don’t cause permanent tissue damage.
