Mans Worsening Migraines Caused By Tapeworms From Bacon
An American man made an emergency visit to his doctors after his worsening migraines flared up, caused by parasitic tapeworms in his brain, due to uncooked bacon.
That Bacon Seems Undercooked
The 52-year-old American man went to his local doctors after he noticed his normal migraines he suffered from, they were getting worse and worse. The issue occurred over a period of four months. It got so bad that his medications for his migraines stopped working.
He was immediately admitted to the hospital for more tests. They took CT scans of the mans brain and found fluid-filled sacs around his brain, according to NBC News. The medical term for this is cystic foci. The test results were sent back and he was diagnosed with neurocysticercosis. It’s the medical term for parasitic tissue that was infection caused by larva cysts of the pork tapeworm. It’s found in the brain, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Doctors eliminated all options of how he could contract the pearceites. Later, doctors learned he loves to eat bacon that is lightly cooked. He’s been eating it like this the majority of his lifetime. They found this was the only cause of the neurocysticercosis along with him not washing his hands properly after touching the bacon.
The Cure
The patient was immediately treated with medications to fight the parasites and inflammation. After treatment started, the lesions in his brains started to lessen, causing his headaches to get better. According to the NBC News article, doctors told them it’s very rare for people to contract these parasites in America. But it’s possible through non-traditional causes. According to the CDC, the disease can obviously be fatal if not treated properly or ignored.
Safe to say this man will most likely stop eating bacon all together or he’ll cook his bacon longer now.
