Local Hockey Fan Has New Book: ‘Vegas Hockey-Vegas Strong’
We have fallen in love with the VGK, but a local hockey fan has gone one step further and has a new book out, “Vegas Hockey-Vegas Strong”! Richard Gubbe, and his co-author Robert Lawson, have chronicled the game in Las Vegas for the past 60 years!
That’s right, before the VGK, before the Las Vegas Thunder or the ACES, hockey in our town actually goes back a ways. The Mike & Carla Morning Show had the chance to catch up with Richard to talk about the new book. Believe it or not, it’s a bit of history very few know about!
If You’re A Fan Of Hockey, You Will Love The Book
Richard Gubbe has been in town a long time and has seen a lot. Even more so, he’s been a fan of hockey even longer and truly loves the game. Having played the sport, being involved at different levels, he has a nose for the game.
So, it was great catching up with Richard, especially since he included Mike O’Brian in his book and a picture! Hey, believe it or not, as Gubbe puts in his book, even Mike had skills at one time!
But if you’re a fan of the game and a Las Vegas history buff, you’re not going to fine a better documented story of the sport than in this book. Featuring the game that started it all for the NHL here…the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.
Even before we knew about the now famous “Winter Classics”, Caesars Palace constructed a hockey rink in the back of the resort. And they persuaded Wayne Gretsky and the Kings to come to Vegas to take on the Rangers! In fact, Mike O’Brian was there that night and even skated with the teams the night before!
It’s all in the book! “Vegas Hockey-Vegas Strong”! Listen to our visit, find out how you get the book, then enjoy!
