My Best Christmas Gift Ever; What Was It For You

Getting closer to the holidays, it makes me starting thinking all the great gifts I got as a kid. The best Christmas gift ever…what was it for you? For me, I tend to flashback to the early 60s and under the tree was the Mighty Mo Cannon! I kid you not…complete with a plunger and a set of cannon balls that would actually fire!

On The Mike & Carla Morning Show, I’m sure some would be amazed to think that parents would get this for a kid that was only about 6 or 7 years old. But it was the hot toy back then and I loved it. In fact, I remember being sick that Christmas morning and wasn’t able to go to mass. How stoked was I that I got to stay home all day to play with my Mighty Mo Cannon!

What Was Your Best Christmas Gift Ever?

It was great just loading it up and aiming it at my unsuspecting brother and sisters. And being the youngest, I was already annoying to them, but now I had the firepower! I think over the next few weeks, my big brother started tossing the cannon balls in the garbage just to get back at me!

I guess at that young age, you were entranced by war stuff back then. The other great gift I got one Christmas was a huge bag of plastic green Army guys! They came in all positions, snipers, some with a gun on one knee and others just standing there. My grandson asked what they did and I said, “…uh nothing, you just set them up in a battle scene and made gun noises I guess?” He was not impressed!

Now it’s all technical stuff…computers, kindles, tablets! As I look back now, we all had such the imagination didn’t we? We had to because that’s about all we had…unless you got the Slinky for Christmas! What was that? Basically a SPRING! You held the ends in each hand and just went back and forth…hours of fun. Last, but not least, was the amazing SUPER BALL!

Again, trying to explain the novelty of this creation proved to be as less impressive as the green plastic Army men! It was a ball and if you bounced it, it went real high and far! Then you’d go get it and do it again! Boy have we come a long way!

So what did we get our grandson for Christmas last year…earbuds! It just makes me laugh now! Happy Holiday!
