Are You Allowed To Open One Gift On Christmas Eve
Not sure how this even got started, but some families actually allow kids to open one gift on Christmas Eve! That’s what The Mike & Carla Morning Show wanted to know this morning and even more so, is it the same case for Hanukah? Figuring that there are eight nights of celebration, do you allow the kids to open one the night before Hanukah begins or do you sandbag all the gifts and let them open them throughout the week?
Now as kids, each family had their own ritual…some kids just whined about it enough where parents would finally give in! But the fact of the matter is that Mike O’Brian is not a fan of the opening of one gift on Christmas Eve, on the other hand, Carla Rea doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.
In fact, Carla saw it as a reward for her from her mom! Her mom thought that if Carla would stay up late enough to open one gift on Christmas Eve, she would actually sleep in on Christmas Day making it a “win-win” situation for the both of them!
On the flipside, growing up Catholic, Mike felt it was a bribe to stay up late enough to go to midnight mass, “…you can open one gift, but then we have to go to church!” As kids, we just knew if we wanted a gift it was going to cost us…but in the end, being able to stay up all night was kind of cool.
On the other hand, once you got home after mass and fell asleep, chances are, even as excited as you were, mom and dad knew you would be sleeping in, so they got to as well!
All in all, it was just how you were raised…but in the end, is there really any harm in opening one little gift before the big guy in red shows up? Probably not…so listen to the segment and see how you feel about it. It might even jog a few childhood memories or make ya think as a parent! Enjoy!
