Vegas Kids Can Win Free Prizes With Summer Challenge Reading & Activities Program
School is officially done for our Clark County kids. Now what? Well, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is answering that question for a lot of parents. With their annual Summer Challenge Reading & Activities Program. It gives kids something to do for the summer that can not only enhance their skills for the next school year, but also score them some cool prizes.
The 2024 Summer Challenge Reading & Activities Program
This year’s theme is focusing on all things related to oceans. The theme was chosen to intrigue kids and keep them engaged in learning over the summer. Which is a time of year when many kids experience a loss of significant skills, called the “summer slide”. The best part of the Summer Challenge Reading & Activities Program is that it’s not just reading that can win you prizes. It’s anything that helps you learn and grow.
Even learning a new language, teaching yourself to operate a new machine like a 3D printer, even producing and recording your own music. These are all things that qualify people for prizes. And the challenge is open to people of all ages, from toddlers to adults.
The best part is that the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has 25 branches throughout the Las Vegas Valley. With free resources for anyone to use to help meet their goals and win prizes. Resources include art galleries, live performances, podcasting equipment, craft and language classes, job skills training, and much more.
Prizes You Can Win During The Summer Challenge
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has partnered with many local organizations that are contributing to the prize pool. Participants can win prizes from Vegas Golden Knights, NBA Summer League, Illuminarium, RTC, Raising Canes, Panda Express, Pink Box Donuts, Meow Wolf, and Get Outdoors Nevada. Other partners for this year’s Challenge include University of Nevada Extension, Three Square, and Vegas PBS.

How To Enter The Challenge
There are two ways to get started. You can start online at TheLibraryDistrict.org/SummerChallenge or walk into any of the 25 library locations and get a paper activity log to track your progress. There are three “Ocean Depth Levels” to complete on the log, and lots of events, activities, classes, and live performances scheduled this summer through the library to help meet activity goals. There are also reading recommendations, including downloadable books and audiobooks, available through the library’s website that can help participants as well.
A book prize will be awarded to participants for each Ocean Depth Level completed. And, upon completing all three levels, participants will be eligible for many other awesome prizes. And there’s more… Kids who really love reading can do extra minutes for each level and qualify to win an Apple iPad.
The Summer challenge is a great way to make sure our kids don’t fail victim to that “summer slide”. So they can start the next school year strong. And win cool prizes while they do it! The challenge has begun and goes through July 31, 2024. For more information, including available activities and prizes, visit thelibrarydistrict.org/summerchallenge/.
