Wynn And Fontainebleau Fight Over Employees In Las Vegas
Wynn and Fontainebleau are fighting over employees, on the Las Vegas strip.
Wynn And Fontainebleau Fighting In Las Vegas
The two Las Vegas properties have been thumbing their nose at each other for a while now. Fontainebleau sat empty, looking like garbage, for years. I know firsthand because I used to work at the Riviera comedy club, next door – where the Riviera used to stand. It was a horrible eyesore, and a squatters paradise.
It was a horrible eyesore, and a squatters paradise. It took a very long time to finally finish the Fontainebleau. Personally, I wonder what ghosts are still inside the place. Because it was a rough go for 20 plus years, and a LOT went on in that big, empty, dilapidated (at one time) structure.
They ran out of money, then someone was going to invest. And then they weren’t. And then they were. Let’s just say the old Fontainebleau was a long time in the making.
Wynn And Fontainebleau Going To Court Over Contracted Employees
Executives at Wynn claim that the Fontainebleau was trying to steal their employees pretty early on. These are employees with non-compete clauses. And now Wynn has taken it to court to make them stop. They are now asking a judge to step in, to stop Fontainebleau from stealing executives.
The Las Vegas Review Journal says, in a motion filed last week, Wynn says that Fontainebleau continuously contacted employees trying to get hem to quit, and work for them. Judge Mark Denton is expected to rule on the preliminary injunction within 30 days.
In at one case mentioned in the filing, Fontainebleau offered to almost double the salary of one Wynn executive to get him to come over to the shiny new resort.
Wynn higher ups believe the Fontainebleau will continue interfering with Wynn’s contracted employees. Even using third parties to try to break contracts. Fontainebleau officials have not commented on the case. Wynn filed a lawsuit against Fontainebleau in February. And they say Fontainebleau has been pretty relentless in their efforts to poach employees.
It’s hard to not want almost double your salary. But a non-compete clause is often hard to fight – at least for your or I. Executives always seem to find a way around it, don’t they?
Wynn and Fontainebleau. Two beautiful Las Vegas resorts going fisticuffs. The decision in this case will be interesting, and possibly precedent-setting in some ways. We’ll see who wins this turf war soon.
