Jacob Elordi Only Knew About Elvis Presley From ‘Lilo & Stitch’
Jacob Elordi is the next young, hot actor to portray Elvis Presley in a film. Following Austin Butler, who played Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 movie, the Euphoria star will be the next one seen in the bedazzled white jumpsuit in Priscilla. Some may be surprised to learn that Elordi didn’t know much about Elvis before portraying the legendary music figure in the Sofia Coppola-directed film. Butler is 32, while Elordi is 26. Though both are Millenials, Elordi admitted the singular embarrassing reason that he knew about Elvis.
While appearing on Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show, the Australian actor admitted to host Jimmy Fallon that “The most I knew of Elvis was in Lilo & Stitch.” During the 2002 animated Disney film, Lilo (Daveigh Chase), who is a big fan of Presley, slowly converts her adopted pet alien, Stitch (Chris Sanders), into a diehard fan of the King of Rock and Roll. The film’s soundtrack also features several of the musician’s hit songs, including “Burning Love,” “Stuck On You,” and “You’re the Devil in Disguise.”
Elordi’s Presley Audition
As for taking on the famous singer, Elordi noted that it was a “little bit terrifying.” The actor said he also didn’t feel very confident when he initially auditioned. He recalled the Marie Antoinette director sent him “sides that said Elvis, and I kinda just was like, ‘There’s no chance that this is happening.'” After watching a clip of Presley returning from the Army in Germany, he said he “read the lines for like 15 minutes and then shot two takes, not thinking it would go anywhere.” Elordi wasn’t even sure if he got Presley’s voice right in the audition, but he said Coppola liked what she saw, which landed him the role opposite Cailee Spaeny’s Priscilla Presley.
When Fallon asked Elordi if he was nervous about working with Coppola, he said it was “just exciting” and “pure bliss.” He added that he was trying to make a “straight-up relationship drama, without Elvis or Priscilla, for Sofia Coppola” by evoking inspiration from 2010’s Blue Valentine.
