Why Your ‘Smile’ Can Make A Difference
Well, if you’re looking for some good news this morning, here it is: Your smile can actually make a difference in someone’s life! Here’s the best part, it’s FREE and really doesn’t involve you doing much more than smiling throughout your day at others!
The topic came up this morning on The Mike & Carla Morning Show as they covered a “Few Things We Think You Should Know” and it turns out we can all spread a little joy no matter if we’re at work, shopping at the store, or just walking down the street.
According to results of a study put out by our friends at SNWS, a simple smile can make the difference in someone else’s life just as much as yours…and we’re not talking that sarcastic, condescending smile either!
For instance, they found that a smile can be just as contagious as laughter and you can end up spreading your smile to, on average, three other people. Can you imagine what a better place this would be if we all just put forth the effort to “smile”?
Now with that in mind, here are a few more quick stats on how it can brighten someone’s day . . .75% of people said that a nice smile from someone can lift their spirits. Just a simple smile from someone they know or better yet, someone they don’t know can do the trick!
Here’s the one surprising number…36% said it makes them want to do something nice for someone else. oh, we like this one a lot! A third of the people surveyed said that smile from someone actually might make them help out a complete stranger…depending on what it is of course!
By the way, talking about “strangers”, 64% say a smile from a stranger is as good as getting three compliments. You know what, we will take that everyday and twice on Sundays! And last, but not least, smiles also make us want to be nicer to folks we just met. The people we’re most likely to pass the positivity onto are friends, family, and strangers are third.
So listen to the segment from this morning on “smiles” and a few other things M&C passed along this morning…and SMILE!
