Tornado Warning Hits Close To Las Vegas
How many others got the “tornado” warning over the weekend here in Las Vegas and were a little surprised? Yeah, that’s what we thought as well! The Review-Journal reported that a tornado had been spotted in Littlefield, Arizona and was awaiting confirmation of a tornado touching down in Mesquite.
The Mike & Carla Morning Show started off the show this morning talking about the warning and wanted to know what the heck that was all about. Now, luckily someone called in and told us what the fuss was all about and explained what kind of “tornado” would actually be able to hit Southern Nevada.
If you do a little research, tornados are NOT usually a huge factor when it comes to weather here in Southern Nevada. However, there have been over 79 tornados reported in our great state over the past 50 years. Regarding Las Vegas, thanks to the fact that we live in a valley and are surrounded by the Sheep Mountain Range, the chances of a tornado happening in Las Vegas proper is very slim!
However, over the weekend the tornado warning issued for Northeastern Clark County and Northern Mojave County caught people a little off guard!
While the tornado warnings have expired, strong-to-severe storms continue in northeastern Clark and northern Mohave County. These will continue moving south through the evening. Strong winds and hail are the main concerns. When thunder roars, go indoors! #NVwx #AZwx

For those that have moved here from the Great Plains states or even the Midwest, where tornados are an everyday occurrence during the season, this was a little eerie for some, but knowing that a tornado dropping down in Las Vegas is rare, gave us a little breathing room. Oh sure, we have experienced the high wind warnings, driving rains, the flooding, but to have a tornado hit Las Vegas is something totally different.
With all that, The M&C Morning did get a call that helped us understand what all the fuss was about and hopefully did the same for those listening this morning…so click below and listen to the segment and know that in fact, we are living in what some like to call a “disaster-free” area of the country!
