It is Valentines week, once again. Time to share your love, remember past loves – and maybe confront your old crush.

Who Was Your High School Crush Way Back When – Did They Know?

Doing the Mike and Carla Morning Show, we’re always trying to think of fun things to do for the upcoming holidays, or events. Something that our listeners will enjoy along with us – or perhaps enjoy making fun of us for.

My on air partner, Mike O’Brian and I toyed with the idea of calling an old crush. We thought it might be fun to tell them we had a crush on them, back in high school. A lot of KKLZ  listeners had crushes – that they ended up marrying. Some had crushes, but the crush never knew.

Mike O’Brian got in touch with his crush, Debbie. Sadly, she didn’t really remember Mike – at all. But she did wish him well on his little ‘radio thing.’

I Still Blushed – Even Decades Later

I mentioned a crush I had in high school – Sam. I reached out to him, because I thought it would be fun to tell him I had that crush on him. We were friends, and had a great time in high school. He was a blast! But at one point in my senior year, like crushes go – I had a little different feeling for Sam.

He was supposed to call in on Valentines day. But as the morning moved on – no Sam. My partner Mike and producer Morty were giving me a hard time, thinking I made it up. Then the studio hotline rang – SAM! Wow – I haven’t spoken to him in decades.

I Was Reminded Once Again Why I Had This Crush

He didn’t know that I had this crush on him. But he reminded me of exactly WHY I had it. Because he was one of the most fun, funny, outgoing, and welcoming guys I have ever known.

I was much heavier in high school. It’s tough for anyone who battles with their weight, in high school, and beyond. And especially for girls. Although I didn’t know why, or completely understand why, but Sam made me feel “sexy.” That may sound odd, but he did. And he’s probably the first guy in my life to ever do that. And I will be forever grateful for that. For finding out what that felt like at my ripe old age of 17.

We were voted class clowns in High School, had mutual friends that we hung out with, went to some fun parties, and have stayed facebook friends over the years.

My high school crush, Sam. We shared one kiss, that one night, at that one party. I remember it well. And truth be told – so does he.

Carla Rea is the morning show co-host on “The Mike and Carla Morning Show" on 96.3 KKLZ, in Las Vegas. She has been working with her partner and friend Mike O'Brian for the past 25 plus years. At KKLZ for 12 years. Carla Rea is a Gracie Award winner. She started out in talk radio, "when talk radio was still fun" Rea says. Prior to, and along with doing the morning show, Carla is also a comedian. You may have seen her on Conan O'Brien, Evening at The Improv, Showtime, or several comedy clubs across the country. Carla also worked as a light feature reporter at KSNV/NBC Las Vegas, going behind the scenes at various shows, and restaurants on the Las Vegas strip. Tips For The Best Anti Valentines Day Ever: Cheese And Vodka

Eating a lot of string cheese? Listening to a lot of Adele? Then you must be celebrating “Anti-Valentines Day!”

It’s tough not to celebrate something everyday, when you live in Las Vegas. But Valentines Day isn’t everyone’s thing. Here’s what not to do on Valentines Day to make it the best Anti Valentines day ever!

Step Away From Social Media For Anti-Valentines Day

Put your phone down! Posting excessively on social media can result in side effects. Like self-pity, romanticizing relationships,and failing to be witty or sarcastic. No! Seek medical help if attention-seeking worsens. Do not drive or operate machinery, as it will probably result in you crying into your string cheese and vodka.

Talk to your bestie,  your therapist – or maybe your pharmacist – to learn what it means to hold your own, to love yourself, and to be okay with being alone. It really is ok. Go ahead – watch “Daisy Jones and the Six” again!

The worst thing about Valentine’s Day for single people, is everyone else’s social media posts. It’s like Coachella for couples: pictures, pictures, pictures – or it didn’t happen. See how in love we are? He’s the best! She’s the best! Selfies galore. Although it does smell better than Coachella.

Always keep in mind, social media perpetuates fakeness. We all know relationships are not all “I love you baby,” and rom-com dates. Far from it! They are more, “you loaded the dishwasher wrong again” and bending over and asking, “is this a mole?”

Valentines Day Is Just Not For Everyone

Valentine’s Day might be romantic for many couples, but not everyone wants to celebrate the holiday of love – especially when their single. That’s why Valentine’s Day is now also known as “Singles Awareness Day.” Note the acronym for that one: SAD. I mean, it’s right there!

For those who are not in relationships, or recently went through a break up, this list is for you. Anti-Valentine’s Day quotes, and music. Filled with a little humor, sarcasm, and pessimism. The perfect combination for non-lovers. Or for those of you who believe it’s just another day to love your significant other – and yourself.

    Thank Jimmy Fallon for this quote. I suppose if you think about it, it is kind of weird to think that we want to give someone our heart. It should be beating for YOU. Not someone else.
