Las Vegas Celebrates: 70th Anniversary As Wedding Capital Of The World
How time flies when everyone is having fun! Now get ready as Las Vegas celebrates the 70th anniversary of being the “wedding capital of of the world!” On August 15th, the Clark County Commissioners recognized Clark County’s 70th anniversary…so let it said, let it be done!
It’s amazing how many people have gotten married in Las Vegas over the past seven decades. And now the city is getting ready to celebrate. There will even be a huge show to celebrate the event on Sunday, September 3rd at Caesars Palace. There will be entertainment, a VIP Vow Renewal, champagne toast and more!
According to weddings.vegas, it actually goes back further that 70 years ago. In the 1930’s, the city of Las Vegas decided to make it very easy for folks to get married. Heck, back then you didn’t even need a blood test or endure a “waiting” period.
Celebrating Las Vegas As The “Wedding Capital of the World”
However, a lot of city officials are setting the 70th anniversary back to 1953. Why? First and foremost, the website gives credit to the London Daily Herald that boasted Las Vegas as the “wedding capital of the world” to readers across the pond. That’s also when the Frank Sinatra signed his contract with the Sands and the “Rat Pack” era began!
With that said, from that year forward, millions of people have been coming to our city whether it be to say “I do” or just to get away! According to the website, in 1995 alone, over 100,000 couples had made it to Las Vegas to tie the knot.
Nowadays, getting married in Las Vegas is a huge part of our economy. Generating close to $2 billion in revenue yearly, the “wedding” business also employs thousands of people and small businesses up and down the Strip! Not too mention the couples that flock to Vegas on Valentine’s Day and those special dates to get married. All money makers for the city!
Keep in mind, Clark County records show that there over 75 chapels locally…and that doesn’t NOT include those chapels in hotel/casinos throughout the city. So, if you’re looking to get married, there is always a place to do it!
