Telephone Tuesday: Busiest Day Of The Year For Phone Calls
It’s Telephone Tuesday. The day businesses supposedly get the most phone calls all year.
Everything is back open after the long Labor Day weekend. All kids are back in school now, and Supposedly now is when people start planning for the holidays.
Telephone Tuesday Is The Day After Labor Day
Happy Telephone Tuesday! You might be stuck on hold for a while today, so brace yourself. Because the Tuesday after Labor Day is supposedly the day businesses get the most phone calls all year.
It’s partly because everyone’s open again after the long weekend, and people are now planning for the holidays. Adults can now get back to tackling their own to-do lists.
“Telephone Tuesday” is a loose business observation. It’s like a distant cousin of Black Friday. However, it may be fading into the past, now that so many businesses are using automated menus (UGH!) that direct people online. I call it ‘generation tech.’ Where you get to talk to a digital assistants, or a chat bot (DOUBLE UGH!), that says it understands, but it really doesn’t. Trust me – I know. And so do you.
But I Want To Talk To A Real Person!
It’s definitely harder and harder to talk to a real human being these days, even at many small businesses. It’s a very unwelcome change, and hopefully one day we’ll go back to talking to real people.
If you look at most polls, customers still prefer human interactions over other automated ones. A phone call is still the best, most efficient way, to get an answer. And it seems that even businesses would realize this. But often – as with most businesses – they don’t want to pay someone.
And most people say they have to contact a company repeatedly, in order to resolve a problem. We all know this, because we’ve been there – and it’s frustrating as hell!
So, if you’re trying to tackle business by phone today – Telephone Tuesday – be patient.
