Are You Turning Into Your Parents Already
Are you turning into your parents already? Yes. We all are. And it’s happening earlier than you might think.
We’ve all seen the Geico ads with “Dr. Rick,” trying to teach people how not to become their parents. Don’t talk about the weather, don’t start small talk with LL Cool J, etc.
In a recent poll, 27% of Americans say they’re worried they’re becoming their parents. Face it, we’re all becoming our parents whether we like it or not. And it’s at a much younger age than you probably thought.
Are You Turning Into Your Parents When It Comes To Traveling
The average person first realizes that they are beginning to act like their parents at around 30 years old. WHAT??? Where is Dr. Rick??
Of all the generations surveyed, Gen Z is the one most likely to see similarities to their parents early on, when it comes to traveling. The survey also asked which “travel habits” people are worried they picked up from their parents.? The top 5:
- Getting to the airport way too early
- Forgetting something at home
- Getting to the gate before doing anything else
- Making sure you go to the bathroom right before, or during flight boarding
- “Making friends” at the airport
Aren’t most of these just smart? I mean, who wants to use the tiny airplane bathroom if they don’t have to? And I can’t tell you how many times I have made friends at the airport – and ended up with a free drink!
Overall, about 38% of those surveyed believe they have better travel habits than their parents. Baby boomers feel the strongest about this (43%).
Other Tell-Tale Signs You’re Turning Into Your Parents
It’s not just traveling. It’s everyday life. And we notice those parental things in our selves in certain things we do, and in the way we do them. Are you doing any of these?
- Driving farther to get a cheaper price on a product
- Waking up really early to start your day, and realizing it actually makes you more productive
- Watching the shows your mom and dad liked
- Giving the same advice your parents gave you
- Taking extra condiment packets/sweetener packets
Embarrassed to say, I am so guilty of that last one.
I’m happy to say, that I had cool parents. Hopefully, a lot of us did. So if we’re turning into our parents, well – there are worse things.
