Boomers, Your Kids Say You Actually DID Get Some Things Right
Boomers take a lot of ribbing and complaining from younger people, and their own kids, for the “uncool” things they do.
Last week on The Mike and Carla Morning Show Carla talked about millennials now hating, and being triggered by the thumbs-up emoji. It literally gives them anxiety. Other off-putting things “Boomers” do include using ellipses in texts, calling without texting first – and watching a ton of cable news.
But now younger adults, and even your own kids are talking about things that their parents’ generation actually got RIGHT. Buzzfeed put the question out there, and the highlights are really interesting:
The neighborhood watch. One commented: “Most people years ago new each other from the beginning, to the end, on their street, and looked out for each other.” These days, many people keep their kids inside, and kids just play inside a lot more. And of course, parents are afraid to leave their kids playing alone.
Not sharing EVERYTHING about their lives, like people do on social media now. Some responded that their (younger) generation basically wakes up, and puts something on social, immediately!
“Boomers” fixed things, as opposed to just throwing them away, and buying new stuff. Tis of course was when you actually COULD. Sadly, so many big ticket items aren’t made to be fixed, or it costs MORE to fix it!
Affordable housing – wait – what is this you speak of? (Although it’s debatable whose fault the high price of housing is)
Photo albums. Having actual pictures was a very cool thing from the past. But sure, scrolling through your 10,000 phone pics for 20 minutes, to *NOT* find that one picture, from that one time, that one day, that one year, is a real blast.
Phones. Some said how fun it must have been to “get loud, cuss someone out on a land line house phone, and slam that thing down! The person on the other end could hear and feel it!” The ‘boop’ of a cell phone call ending just doesn’t give what needs to be given!
Hiring for jobs! Anyone under 30 doesn’t really know that you could just walk into a place and ask for a job – or at least an application. It was definitely the way to go.
So Boomers – you did SOMETHING right!
