Rise In Covid-19 Cases In Las Vegas Has Health Experts Worried
Didn’t we get past this problem already? Apparently not.
Health experts in Clark County have reported an increase in Covid-19 cases in the area. Specifically in cases that are leading to hospitalizations. The latest data is showing a 12 percent increase in cases across the country, ktnv.com reported. As well as a surprising 40 percent increase right here in Nevada.
The report listed the number of cases documented in laboratories across the state. It listed a total of 273 new cases. And there is an assumption that the number is even higher if we also consider cases confirmed with home tests. These statistics came from the Southern Nevada Health District (ktnv.com).
Of those new cases, 77 of them in the past week have required hospitalization. Which is a 40 percent increase from the week before. The good news is that none of these cases have resulted in death. That is due mostly to the latest Covid-19 sub-variants being far less deadly than the original Covid-19 variant seen in 2020. The variants that are currently most dominate in Clark County are XBB1.16 and SBB1.5, ktnv.com reported.
So what has doctors worried in Clark County? It’s not that they are expecting a resurgence of a Covid-19 variant like what we’ve seen in the past. It’s that these numbers so early in the year might indicate a lot of cases in Clark County come fall and winter.
And that, along with the flu and RSV cases that are also expected, could mean a demand in health care higher than what can be met. Health experts in Clark County are advising people to go to the doctor even if they think they have a cold. And warn that the most at risk this year are the elderly with underlying medical issues or older people who are not vaccinated.
Advice is to stay home if you do test positive for Covid-19 to avoid spreading it to others.
