Local Nonprofit Is Helping Make Las Vegas A Technology Superhub
If you’ve never heard of Tech Alley, you will.
The fairly new local nonprofit just celebrated its 2-year anniversary. And they’re already making a name for themselves in the technology world. But they’re doing even more than that. They’re also bringing the technology world to Las Vegas and showing them that we mean business.
Tech Alley was founded by Joshua Leavitt in 2021. Leavitt saw how good Las Vegas was at attracting tech companies to visit the city with various conventions and the like. But he wanted those same companies to stay here and create a technology ecosystem in Southern Nevada.
The mission of Tech Alley is to strengthen communities by bringing people together to foster new creative ideas. Their goal is to focus on inclusion, diversity and innovation in technology and start-up cultures in Las Vegas. They also have chapters in Reno and Denver.
Tech Alley is like the “meetup of meetups”.
They find venue space and invite other local meetups of technology-lovers, investors and entrepreneurs to gather for a full day of networking. Tech Alley hosts these monthly events every third Saturday of the month at Taverna Costera in the Downtown Arts District. The monthly events focus on three principles: inclusivity, accessibility and consistency.
Their next event is on July 15. From 10am to 4pm, there will be several meet-ups gathering to discuss new ideas in technology and start-ups. Taverna Costera will provide food and all age groups are welcome to attend. Get more information at techalley.org or on their Meetup.com page.
Joshua Leavitt joined Wendy on Talking Solutions to discuss the upcoming event and how Leavitt came to start Tech Alley. He also shared his vision for the future of the organization and explained why he believes it is so important to foster tech companies here in Las Vegas.
Original air date of this interview was July 2, 2023.
