Flag Day is June 14th. Photo of the United States flag laid diagonally on a table to the left and above the State of Nevada flag. The Nevada flag is most blue. The emblem in the top left corner of the Nevada flag reads "Battle Born" in blue letters on a yellow ribbon, with a white star underneath. The state name of "Nevada" can be seen in yellow letters under the star. There are yellow 5-pointed flowers with green leaves encircling the bottom portion of the emblem.

June 14th is recognized as Flag Day here in the United States of America. It’s the date in 1777 that the Second Continental Congress adopted the famous red, white and blue of our nation’s flag. And now that our nation has grown from those original 13 colonies to 50 great states, how many state flags do you think you can identify?

Flag Day Quiz: Can You Identify All 50 State Flags?

To be honest, I’m not even sure if I could identify the flags of all the states I’ve lived in during my life. Those include New York, Vermont, Colorado, Tennessee, California, and finally Nevada for the past 30 years.

I’m pretty sure I could identify both California and Nevada, because the state’s name is actually printed on those flags. Plus, those are the most recent states in which I’ve lived.

On the other hand, I’m not sure I’d be able to quickly identify the flags of all the other states in which I’ve resided. With this in mind, I thought it was interesting to see the results of Sporcle’s “U.S. State Flags” quiz. The folks at FreeBets.com provided us with the results of over 471,000 participants.

Now, the difficult part of this quiz is that you only have 10 minutes to complete it. That’s a tough task. The other factor that makes this more difficult is that the creator of the quiz removed the names of the states from any flag, like Nevada’s or California’s, which includes it.

Results Of Flag Day Quiz

It turns out, California has the most recognizable state flag. Over 88% of the people who took the quiz identified that big bear as the Golden State’s flag.

Other state flags which were easiest to identify were Texas (#2), Colorado (#3), Washington state (#4), and then Alaska and Maryland tied for fifth.

Unfortunately, Nevada’s flag could only be identified by 43.8% of the quiz takers, placing us 35th out of 50 state flags. Our neighbors to the north in Idaho have the least recognizable state flag, according to the results provided by FreeBets.com.

My results on the Flag Day quiz? Terrible. I got 27 out of 50, but I cheated by looking at this illustration.

An illustration showing the flag of the United States of America on the top left, under the words "United States of America" in white letters at the top of the illustration. All 50 state flags are depicted in tiny rectangles on the right of the illustration, with the name of each state under each flag, in alphabetical order. On the bottom left under the American flag is a map of the United States with a portion of each state's flag occupying that state's location on the U.S. map. If I hadn’t cheated, I may have gotten 5 or 6 out of 50.
