VGK Fan Favorite Competes In WSOP Here In Vegas
One of the biggest events hosted here on the Las Vegas strip is the WSOP or World Series Of Poker. Thousands of people flock to the Las Vegas strip to participate or watch the event happen. This includes celebs and fan favorites, like Vegas Golden Knight Jonathan Marchessault.
Let The Festivities Begin
Aside from being the Conn Smythe winner and a Stanley Cup Champion, he’s also a card player, according to KTNV. So it made sense for the VGK forward to participate. Usually, the Vegas Golden Knights would be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but they were outed in round one of the playoffs. So, Marchessault has more time on his hands.
Jonathan Marchessault did the ceremonial “shuffle up and deal” speech, kicking of the 55th World Series of Poker. Then the All-Star NHL forward took his seat in the $5,000 buy-in Champions Reunion No-Limit Hold’em Freezout tournament.
Machessault is known to be a card player according to his teammates. He told Las Vegas Review-Journal, “I’m in Vegas, and one of my good friends is part of the WSOP organization and thought of me….I was pretty happy to be invited here.” This is the first time they’ve had the Champions Reunion tournament.

VGK Play Poker All The Time
Jonathan plays cards all the time when the team is traveling to different states or countries to play. Machessault said they usually play “13 up, 13 down” but won’t play poker. He said the team reserves poker play during road trips, for the postseason, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
His teammates love to play as well and are known to throw down some high money values. Nothing like the $5,000 buy-in that Marchessault paid, but still a lot.
As far as playing poker professionally, this is his first time. For his first time, he was lucky enough to learn the process, the game better, and more from Daniel Negreanu, a six-time WSOP winner. Just so happens Negreanu is a Vegas Golden Knight fan as well, so the pairing was perfect.
