A.I. Shopping Carts Might Be Making Their Way To Las Vegas
Artificial Intelligence seems to truly be taking over. Someone, at some point, thought it would be great to invent all sorts of things to replace people – and their jobs. Hello A. I.
A.I. Shopping Carts Are Rolling Out
At CES in Las Vegas this year, Sam’s Club announced that they will be rolling out A.I. shopping carts. shopping carts stores have started rolling out? There’s a touchscreen to keep track of your shopping list, and a scanner that tracks what you buy. So you can just pay on the cart and skip the line.
How much do you want to bet they all still have one wonky wheel?
Instacart has been testing A.I. powered shopping carts that might change the way we shop. They do a lot more than just hold groceries, and your kid, and your purse.
There’s a touchscreen to keep track of your shopping list, a scale to weigh your produce, and a scanner that automatically tracks what you’re buying and adds it all up.
Once you’re done, you don’t need to scan everything at the register. It just tells the cashier your total, or you can pay on the cart itself. Here’s video of an A.I. shopping cart in action. Have to admit – it’s pretty cool. But once again, YOU have to do the work. No customer service, and I think a lot of people are missing that.
Are AI Shopping Carts The Future
Seems like there’s a lot of room for error with A.I.carts, because nothing – NOTHING – is foolproof. Walmart announced recently that they are removing many self-checkout kiosks, because of theft, and loss of revenue. And Trader Joe’s has avoided them altogether, because they believe in the customer experience.
AI shopping carts are not a new idea. A company called Caper A.I. launched the carts in 2019. Then Kroger – with a lot of grocery stores here in Las Vegas – started testing them in 2021, and Instacart bought the company for $350 MILLION the same year. They must have known something, right?
More major retailers recently started rolling out AI shopping carts recently, so I’m pretty sure we might be seeing them in Las Vegas soon enough. All in the name of progress – and no more people…
