FLASHBACK: Steve Martin as “The Great Flydini”
Comedy icon Steve Martin celebrates his 72nd birthday today (August 14), and throughout his career, he made countless appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson but one appearance stands out from the rest.
In 1992, Carson’s final year hosting The Tonight Show, Martin appeared on the show as magician “The Great Flydini.” Through the magic of the zipper fly of his trousers and without saying a word (hence the name), he had the audience and Carson in stitches.
Martin obviously is one of the best stand-up comedians of all time, but the way his face emotes and contorts whilst not saying a peep is one of the things that sets him apart from most. Even the way he raises his eyebrows is enough to make an entire room laugh.
