Vegas Golden Knights Pick Up Bruce Cassidy As Head Coach
The Vegas Golden Knights have hired Bruce Cassidy, who’ll be the organization’s third coach in franchise history.
General Manager for the Vegas Golden Knights Kelly McCrimmon made the announcement on Tuesday, June 14.
Cassidy most recently served as the head coach for the Boston Bruins. During his tenure as the 28th coach in Boston, the Bruins qualified for the postseason in each of his six seasons, according to a press release from the Vegas Golden Knights.
“The Golden Knights are very pleased to have Bruce come in to coach our team,” said Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. “His success in Boston over six years is extremely impressive. His teams have had a clear identity, having been among the very best in the NHL in terms of goals for, goals against, goal differential and special teams. This is the right coach for our team at this time.”
Cassidy, an Ottawa native, also led Boston to the best record in the NHL (44-14-12) and won the Jack Adams Award as the top coach in the 2019-20 season, according to the press release. He was the former assistant coach for the Bruins and had a stint with the organization’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins and has experience with the Washington Capitals as the team’s bench boss.
As a head coach, Cassidy’s record is 292-155-53 and has 38 victories in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the press release states.
“I am excited to join an organization that shares my commitment to winning and can’t wait to get to work with the talent that has been assembled in Vegas,” said Golden Knights Head Coach Bruce Cassidy in the release. “It’s been impressive to watch the city embrace the Golden Knights from afar, and my family and I look forward to becoming a part of that.”
This announcement comes nearly a month after the organization fired the former head coach Peter DeBoer.
