Nevada’s Favorite Musicals: Something Old, Something New
Many people enjoy a good musical. Some are universally-loved and stand the test of time. Others are more of an acquired taste that often collect dust in the back of the DVD collection. Nevada’s choice of favorite musicals seem to have a little of each.
A recent study was done by musical theatre tickets company SeatPlan to find what the favorite musicals are for residents of each U.S. state. They did this by analyzing the total monthly searches on Google pertaining to various musical films. By adding up the most searched movies in each state, SeatPlan found the most popular musicals for its residents.
The 5 Favorite Musicals Of Nevada Residents
The majority of Nevada’s favorite musicals come from the last ten years. But two on the list are from much earlier, proving that some movies just stay with us no matter how much time has passed. Here are what SeatPlan revealed to be the five most popular musical films in the Silver State.
1. Wonka (2023)
Wonka was revealed to be the most popular movie in several states. Including Nevada, with 14,261 monthly searches. Although, this film is new, so only time will tell if it stays a favorite after its new-movie sheen has worn off.
2. New York, New York (1977)
With 13,657 average monthly searches in Nevada, this is second on the list of our state’s most favorite musicals. The 1977 classic stars Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro and gives a nod to the Rat Pack era that Las Vegas is so known for. And with the rest of the musicals being more modern, we love that this gem brings a bit of classic nostalgia to the list.
3. Trolls (2016)
With 8,872 average monthly searches, Trolls came in third on Nevada’s list of most favorite musicals. It’s popularity is no surprise as it was the sixth highest-grossing children’s movie of 2016. And features an amazing soundtrack that you’ll find yourself singing long after the movie is over.
4. The Little Mermaid (1989)
This one is not surprising. It was recently revealed that Ariel is one of the most popular Disney-inspired baby names in Nevada. So it only makes sense The Little Mermaid would be a favorite in our state as well. The film comes in at number four, with an average of 8,318 monthly searches.
5. The Grinch (2018)
There have been many movies featuring everyone’s favorite green Scrooge. But 2018’s The Grinch is the favorite of them all in the Silver State, and number five on the list of Nevada’s most favorite musicals.
Seatplan also revealed that there were a lot of Disney classics in the nation’s top ten. In spite of the fact that so many animated Disney films have been turned into live-action remakes. It just goes to show that when it comes to some favorite musicals, you can’t beat the original.
