Disney Baby Names Found Most Popular In Nevada
Experts at BeenVerified.com recently looked over baby names data from the Social Security Administration. They did so to determine the most-influential characters on baby names. They also used the data to break down which names were more popular in each state.
What the experts found was a parallel between a Disney movie’s popularity and the rising popularity of the name from a character in that movie. The study found that Disney baby names from a specific movie were three times more likely to double in popularity the year that movie was most popular.

Another thing the study revealed was that Nevada topped the list for the most Disney baby names per 100,000 births during a Disney movie’s peak year. That means the Silver State is the most influenced by a Disney movie when it comes to naming our little ones.
BeenVerified.com experts found this out by using the same data from the Social Security Administration. They specifically looked for the Disney baby names that were the most popular overall in the study. And Nevada had the highest number of those names per 100,000 births during peak movie years.
The Top 10 Disney Baby Names In The Country
While conducting the study, it probably became obvious quickly which Disney baby names were the most popular overall in the whole country. BeenVerified.com put together a list of the names that increased the most in popularity the year a Disney movie peaked. And they reported the increase in popularity for that name during the peak year as well. Here are the top 10:
1. Merida
The fiery redhead in Disney’s Brave inspired a 1150% increase in popularity the year after Brave was released. No, that’s not a typo. 1150%.
2. Koda – The young, high-spirited bear cub from Brother Bear influenced parents so much that this Disney baby name shot up 937% in popularity when the movie was hot. Check out the trailer.
3. Moana
Our favorite heroine from Disney’s Moana inspired so many parents the year the movie was most popular, that the named increased in popularity as well. By 488%.
4. Finnick
The little fox from Zootopia might be behind one of the most influential of the Disney baby names. Only because the name didn’t exist before the movie came out. But it increased 408% in popularity after. Finnick is the little guy that acts like a baby to get the popsicle but then drives off in the van with the thug attitude.
5. Mirabel
Who wouldn’t want to name their child after Encanto‘s most loveable character? This Disney baby name increased in popularity by 271% during the movie’s peak.
6. Ariel
Everyone’s favorite Little Mermaid has been influencing parents for decades, remaining in the top 10 of most popular Disney baby names even though the movie is nearly four decades old. The popularity of this name increased by 253% during the movie’s peak year. And the name remains the most popular in the country overall, taking the top spot in all but six states.
7. Flynn
The unsuspecting hero from Tangled captured everyone’s hearts when he went from rogue thief to good guy with a heart. His character inspired a 166% increase in popularity in his baby name.
8. Raya
It’s no surprise the warrior from Raya and The Last Dragon would influence parents the year the movie peaked. Raya was a determined and courageous character worthy of being a namesake. This Disney baby name increased in popularity by 161% after the movie’s release.
9. Camilo
This name saw a 142% increase in popularity during Encanto‘s peak years. Though, this shape-shifting member of the Madrigal family wasn’t much of a focus in the movie. BeenVerified.com sites the increase in Latino population in the U.S. over the years as a possible reason behind the rising popularity of the name.
10. Elsa
Barely making the top 10 list is the ice queen from Frozen. This Disney baby name increased in popularity by 126% in 2014, a year after the movie’s release. But even though the name is low on the top 10 list, it is still the most popular Disney baby name in five states, BeenVerified.com reports.
The Most Popular Disney Baby Names In Nevada
Ariel dominates the country as the most popular Disney-inspired baby name. It’s also on the top of the list of most popular Disney baby names in Nevada. Followed by Esmerelda (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Sebastian (The Little Mermaid), Camilo (Encanto) and Violet (The Incredibles).
