High-Traffic Area In Las Vegas Just Closed Down
The Nevada Department of Transportation announced in December that road closures were going to happen this month. The closures, starting January 17th, are going to be around Tropicana Avenue and I-15. The closures will be full, but also temporary. They are necessary for this phase of the Tropicana Design Build project.
The project is aiming to demolish and rebuild the north half of Tropicana Avenue over I-15 and Frank Sinatra Blvd. Those are the eastbound lanes in that area. Many parts of the flyover ramp from I-15 southbound to eastbound Tropicana will also be demolished for rebuilding.
The purpose of the project is to widen that part of Tropicana to allow for more traffic. The offramps to Tropicana in both directions coming from the I-15 southbound will be the first to close down. That will happen January 17th and last about nine months for the westbound ramp. The flyover ramp that heads east on Tropicana will take longer to rebuild. That’s expected to stay closed for 18 months.
There will be full closures of both the I-15 and Tropicana Avenue at different times during this project. Between Dean Martin Drive and the New York New York Casino, watch for full closure of Tropicana. That will happen for 8 days, from January 22-30. The closure of I-15 in both directions will happen for only 3 days, from Friday, January 27 at 10 p.m. The I-15 will reopen in that area at 5 a.m. on Monday, January 30.
The Tropicana Build project is a necessary growth for Las Vegas due to the increase of traffic in the area. Since the addition of Allegiant Stadium, that area just can’t handle the capacity of visitors. This project will help remedy that in many ways, including making an extra lane in both directions.
There will also be a new pedestrian walkways and signal improvements in the area. In addition to a ten foot wide sidewalk. One of the biggest changes will be realigning Dean Martin under Tropicana to improve traffic flow. The project is expected to go until 2025.

Hey Foodies! Guy Fieri Just Revealed A Hidden Las Vegas Gem
A local Las Vegas restaurant is going to be the subject of a new episode of the Guy Fieri Food Network series. “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” has been on the air for sixteen years, since 2007. And we have discovered a lot of amazing places we want to try, thanks to this show. The latest one is right here in our neighborhood.
Chickpeas Mediterranean Cafe is the featured restaurant on the January 13 episode of the reality series. Fieri taped the episode back in November at the Flamingo location. The segment is called “Smokers, Stove and Skewer” and will air first at 9pm. Additional showings of the same episode will show on future dates. According to the Food Network, it’s one of two Las Vegas restaurants Fieri is featuring in the episode. The other one is a BBQ restaurant.
A representative from the restaurant said “we are proud to have been selected and to represent our great city on a national platform,” News3lv reported. Of course, Fieri is also a local to Las Vegas, having graduated from UNLV back in 1990. So he should know what he’s talking about when it comes to our local cuisine. That… and having his own show on the subject doesn’t hurt.
So, we dove in to the nitty gritty of Chickpeas Mediterranean Cafe and got the necessary details to check this place out ourselves. First, there are two locations in Las Vegas. The aforementioned Flamingo location is at 6110 West Flamingo Road. That’s at the corner of Jones and Flamingo. There’s also a new location in Summerlin at 7668 West Lake Mead Blvd. That’s at the corner of Lake Mead Blvd and Buffalo Drive. Some of the menu items are not available at this location.
And if you don’t want to wait until the show airs to know what to order, here are some of the local favorites. Enjoy! –Wendy Rush
