Tough Times For Holiday Decoration Installation Companies
Have you ever wondered who installs those amazing holiday decorations inside and outside businesses around the Las Vegas valley? I know that the few decorations I put up outside our home every year at this time is a job I never look forward to. I can’t imagine having to install all of those light and decoration displays at places like Harry Reid International Airport.
Dani Masten recently wrote an article for Fox5Vegas.com in which she interviewed the owner of one such company. Ceilee Sandhill is the Owner and General Manager of Las Vegas Christmas Light Installation, and the difficulties we have all faced since the pandemic hit in 2020 have certainly affected his business; and not in a good way. He has had to deal with supply chain shortages, staffing problems, and very long workdays.
According to Masten’s article, Sandhill says things are a little bit better this year, but he is still facing many challenges. He has had to turn away lots of business over the past couple of years because he did not have the supplies or the staff to get the jobs completed in a timely manner. In fact, he starts lining holiday decoration jobs in March! He goes on to say that “demand still outstrips supply” as far as purchasing decoration materials, and hiring enough installation technicians, in order to accept all the jobs he is offered.
When Masten interviewed Sandhill for this particular article, he was working late on a Friday night hanging over 4,000 feet of garland at Harry Reid International Airport. Sandhill also pointed out that inflation is affecting his business, and not only at the gas pump. He said prices have risen about 25% on wreaths and garland, although the cost of holiday lighting has remained pretty constant. And during the holiday season, he works 7 days a week, and 16 hours a day!
I guess I won’t be complaining to my wife when I hang our decorations and light up our house this holiday season.
