With the monsoon season upon us, it begs the question as to why billion dollar hotels are leaking when it rains in Las Vegas. This is one question that popped up this morning on The Mike & Carla Morning Show and, believe it or not, we think we got the answer.
Now consider the fact that it doesn’t rain very often, but when it does, it pours in Las Vegas for a good 20-30 minutes. The city of Las Vegas and Clark County has done a pretty good job of updating the washes in Las Vegas that handle a good amount of the runoff, but still the usual areas become easily flooded on the strip. Near The Linq, the West Charleston underpass and other areas are well known to just stay away from if it rains for any amount of time.
Now keep in mind that the yearly monsoon season here in Southern Nevada runs from June 15 through September 30, but it just seems like August is when we really get the wet stuff. Sunshine throughout the day, then come 3-4 o’clock in the afternoon, the clouds move in and here it comes!
More interesting are these new huge, beautiful hotels that costs millions of dollars up and down the strip and even downtown…what are they leaking so badly when it does rain? Videos of water just gushing out from behind TV’s in the sports books, from above in the ceiling and the recessed lights, and flowing through the floors of the casinos. It never fails and we see the pictures on the news and throughout social media.
And we all get the calls from family and friends back east making sure that we’re all okay…not knowing that within a 30 minute period, most of the water is gone or, depending on where you live, was never a factor in the first place.

Spirit Halloween Opens In Las Vegas; See Inside
It’s that time of year again… No we are not talking about back-to-school season but even better than that. The bone-chilling spooky season of Halloween time is arriving early in Las Vegas and locals aren’t surprised.
It may only be the middle of August but holiday seasons are celebrated days or even months beforehand. The time has come for haunted houses, creature blow ups in the front yard and pumpkin spice Frappuccino’s from Starbucks.
If you’re anything like our digital guru Gianni, he likes to decorate his room and office with all things scary. Stores shelves are starting to look orange, purple and black but with good reason. Start pulling out your Halloween-labeled storage bins because you may be adding more décor than you had before.

We know you’re excited to start picking out your Halloween costume so in case you missed the memo Spirit Halloween is now open in Las Vegas. It may not be October 31 just yet but with five open locations and five soon-to-open locations around the valley; Halloween has officially arrived. Spirit Halloween is your premiere Halloween store with hundreds of costume ideas, themed décor, collectibles and more.
The stores are collecting donations for their Spirit of Children charity which helps provide partnered children hospitals with fun and funding. Their goal is to help support the Child Life Department in making the hospital experience less scary for children and their families. Every donation in-store at check out is celebrated with the ring of a purple cowbell from a Spirit Halloween worker.
