How To Help Out Clark County Graduates In 2024
It’s hard to believe, but the 2023-2024 school year is already coming to an end. And lots of Clark County graduates are looking forward to walking across that stage and picking up their diploma. But some of our hard-working students don’t have the means to enjoy graduation day the way they deserve to. They’ve worked so hard to get to this point, and we want to see each one of them enjoy that much-deserved moment in the spotlight. That’s where the Las Vegas community can help.
Communities In Schools Of Nevada Serving Clark County Graduates
Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS) is the local chapter in a nationwide organization, whose mission is to do whatever it takes to help students stay in school so they can succeed in life. They believe every child, regardless of background or walk of life, has the potential to be successful and have a promising future.
CIS has been hugely successful in helping our local Southern Nevada kids. Last year, they had a graduation rate of 95 percent with their case-managed students. The students in need are case-managed because it takes a lot for kids to succeed in school. And students who don’t have stable housing or those who are food-insecure have even more struggles than just getting homework and tests done. CIS provides full-time site coordinators in 110 schools across four rural and urban school districts throughout Nevada.
Site coordinators work with these students to provide whatever they need to succeed. Including food, school supplies, even help with their family’s bills. CIS works with more than 120 community partners, agencies and nonprofits to provide these services.
CIS is currently serving more than 100,000 K-12 students in Nevada’s schools. And 65 of those schools are right here in Clark County. Most of these schools will celebrate their graduation on May 20, 2024. And CIS is still working hard to make sure every deserving child gets across that finish line.

One student that will graduate this month, thanks to the help from CIS, is Esteban. He’s graduating with a 3.5 GPA and recognition as a scholar-athlete. In speaking about Esteban’s journey, CIS posted this on their Instagram page: “As Esteban prepares for his future as an electrician, his CIS site coordinator Marco has been there to guide him as a mentor.”
