West Virginia Man Goes Viral Because Of His Honeybee Beard
We all can appreciate a good looking, well kept beard. There are all sorts of styles of beards. From the stubble beard to the full and thick lumberjack style beard, we all can appreciate them. What about a beard not made up of facial hair? A man from West Virginia had just this, and people are loving it!
A Beard Made Of What!?!
His name is Charlie Metz of Morgantown, West Virginia. Charlie actually doesn’t have a beard in his everyday life. He attended the Mon County Fair in Morgantown. He teamed up with The Mon County Beekeepers Association, along with the Bearding Ladies to wow fair goers, according to 12WBOY, a local news station in West Virginia.
Mike Lamp, President of the Mon County Beekeepers Association told 12WBOY, “We are here helping Charlie and the Bearding Ladies today as a show of how gentle pollinators can be.” I’m sure you can see where this is going, right?
How Does He Do It?
Charlie is known for having thousands of bees stacked all over each other to make it look like he has a full-sized beard. But how?
Charlie actually takes the Queen Bee from the hive and puts her in a container, which he wears around his chin. This causes the rest of the bees to flock to his chin. Next thing you know, he has a full beard made up entirely of honeybees!
Charlie also told 12WBOY, “We’ll show that honeybees aren’t that aggressive.” Metz has done this a total of five times. He’s teamed up with the Bearded Ladies every time and has never been stung once. When the day is over and it’s time to shave those bees off his face, he does so very gently. He says he goes to the apiary and starts making head-nodding motions, almost like a soft head-banging motion to metal music. Most of the bees fall off and go back to the apiary. The few that don’t come off, he just uses his hand to swipe them gently off.
Bee beards are no new thing, but to see it in person is probably very terrifying at first then amazing after you know it’s safe.
