It's that time of year again to celebrate the independence of our country. Parties, BBQ's and fireworks will be happening throughout the valley. However, it seems that Las Vegas Metro is cracking down on illegal fireworks.

According to a recent report on Channel 3, some of these fireworks are being brought in by the truckloads prior to the holiday weekend. The report goes on to say that with last year's numbers being comparatively high, so far these year, the totals are much bigger!

Metro Cracking Down On Illegal Fireworks In Clark County

Channel 3's report quoted LVMPD Captain William Matchko saying “I can tell you we have already confiscated more and written more citations at this point than we did in all of last year,"

You should known that if you're caught with the illegal packages, the fines alone start at $500.00. With more and more people moving to Las Vegas and the celebrations getting bigger, it's quite the ordeal to keep a handle on all this.

Not to mention it is a safety issue as well. Everyone wants to enjoy the holiday weekend and even much more important, survive it!

A lot us also know that there are safe and approved fireworks available throughout the valley. But for some reason, we're never satisfied are we?

The cost of what some of pay for the holiday pyrotechnics is also baffling. Some people paying thousands of dollars for those few minutes of illumination. But again, reminding everyone that approved or not, these things can be dangerous. Case in point, it was the topic of conversation just a couple of years ago on The Mike & Carla Morning Show.

If anything, just take a couple of minutes to listen to the segment. Hear what some locals have to say about setting off the fire crackers off. And this holiday weekend...be careful!

Where Does Las Vegas Rank For The 4th of July

With the 4th of July right around the corner, WalletHub put out a list of the 100 best places in the U.S. for Fourth of July celebrations. Where does Las Vegas rank for the 4th of July? Well, we're not #1, but we are in the Top 5! Based on public fanfare and fireworks overall. They also included affordability, everything going on around the holiday as well as weather and safety. Turns out Las Vegas rates really well!

Before we get to the Top 5, other cities that came in the Top 10...San Diego, San Antonio and Milwaukee! On the other hand, the worst cities to end up in on the fourth? Birmingham, Alabama comes in at the bottom at #100! Clearly nothing is going on there when it comes to the 4th of July. Surprisingly, a few cities in North Carolina also ranked in the bottom ten!

But, The Mike & Carla Morning Show also wanted to know where the BEST place was to watch from here in Vegas. Keep in mind, that with all the growth over the years, what might have been a great vantage point might not even be there now.

Listeners did text in and call in with their favorite spots that still seem viable throughout the valley. Keeping in mind that there will be fireworks all over the valley...especially if the weather cooperates! It does seem logical that the higher you go, the better the sight line. On the flipside, we found out that you really don't have to worry about depending on where you live.

All we know is Las Vegas takes the 4th very seriously and being in the Top 5 proves it. But where do we officially rank? You can scroll down a bit to find out, then take a few minutes to enjoy the segment from this morning...and enjoy!
