New Kissing Device Promotes Long Distance Intimacy
Let’s face it. We’re always wondering what great hurdle technology will help us overcome next. Kissing probably isn’t on top of that list for many people. Yet, here we are. There’s a new device out of China that allows users to kiss long distance. And it’s causing a lot of controversy on Chinese social media platforms.
What the Kissing Device Does
The gadget comes complete with silicone lips that move, have temperature variance and sounds. All to mimic the user and their partner. The technology programs the machines with sensors and actuators. That allows the device to mimic real kissing from a user. It does this by replicating the movement and pressure of the user’s lips. It even has the technology to replicate the lip’s temperature.
And if that’s not realistic (or creepy) enough, the device can also mimic the sounds a user makes when they’re kissing.
Why Kissing Device Was Invented.
The reason for this technology is actually a good one. It is meant to keep intimacy alive in long distance relationships. At least that’s what the company claims. The patent is owned by the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology, CNN reported. A Malaysian company launched a similar invention in 2016.
So it’s not the first time this kind of thing has seen the light of day. And it does have some positives for couples. But there are many people who are very skeptical about its possibilities. It’s sparked quite the polarized conversation on Weibo, a Twitter-like platform in China. And there have been many negative comments about the invention.
Some say its vulgar. Others worry about it getting into the hands of children. But on the other end of the spectrum, many people who have bought one love it.
How the Kissing Device Works
The device connects to the user’s cell phone, via the charging port. Then partners video call and use the device to simulate a kiss. Although the invention has been marketed to couples in long-distance relationships, it also has options for the single user. There is a mobile app associated with the product that offers users to pair up anonymously with others and exchange kisses.
Dozens of buyers have already posted their reviews on the new product. And it looks like overall it is a success. Intimacy for $41 isn’t a bad deal.
