Local Artist Makes One-Of-A-Kind Art With Barnwood
A local artist is making a name for himself with a very unique style of art. His name is Chris Stokes. His company is called Basically Barnwood. Stokes makes amazing works of art made almost entirely out of recycled barn wood. And it’s incredible what he can do with reclaimed wood.
While he could do this for a living, this is actually just a hobby for Stokes. And one he hasn’t even been doing that long. Stokes is a restaurant manager by trade. But during the pandemic, he was looking to make some pieces of art for his personal use. He had access to barn wood in the area of Utah he was living, and figured he could throw something together.
So he made some cover art of his favorite bands.
Turns out Stokes had quite a knack for upcycling barn wood into art. And album cover art was just the beginning. He eventually branched out (pun intended) into scenic photos. Mostly of what Utah has a lot of: Temples.
What started as just one temple scene, turned into many. People locally and nationally started noticing Stokes and his unique talent, and the orders just started coming in. Stokes says he gets a rush when challenged with a new scene, and appreciates the balance between finding the uniqueness of each scene but also making it recognizable in the art.
Stokes also does furniture, shelving, historic paintings and other famous landscapes. All out of recycled barn wood.
Recognized for his unique talent, Stokes was invited to be interviewed on Salt Lake City’s Fox13Now, where he detailed how he got started and what goes into his work. Stokes has since relocated to Las Vegas. Does this mean we’ll see some Las Vegas art in the near future? Guess we’ll see. 🙂
