Gloria Estefan Gets Her Own Barbie Doll
Gloria Estefan turned 65 this week, and to celebrate, she got a Barbie. I don’t mean someone gave her a Barbie. I mean she got her OWN Barbie! Gloria Estefan announced the news on her Instagram page on Thursday, along with a video of the doll. Her caption read “The best birthday present ever! My very own mini me!”
Before hits like Conga, Get On Your Feet and The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, Gloria Estefan herself was a doll-lover. She told People “I played with Barbies since I was a little girl, I wanted to emulate the torero jackets because my grandfather was from Asturias, Spain, and a mix of Moroccan from the Lebanese side of Emilio [Estefan]’s family because him and I are so intertwined. It’s just one of my favorite looks that I’ve ever had.” The doll is decked out in an outfit inspired by Estefan’s outfit from her “Get On Your Feet” video.
Mattel’s website listed the product description with an homage to the artist: Taking inspiration from her Cuban heritage and blending Latin rhythms with pop and dance beats, Gloria Estefanās unique sound catapulted her to stardom, making her one of the most successful crossover artists in the world. Inspired by the iconic music video for Estefanās chart-topping 1989 hit, āGet on Your Feet,ā Barbie dollās jacket features intricate golden detailing with jeweled accents and a dramatic, oversized lace sleeve. A golden waist chain accentuates her soft leopard belt, while bold thigh-high boots and golden accessories complete her look.” The doll’s release date is listed as Sept 1, Gloria Estefan’s 65th birthday. Although there was a limit of three dolls per customer, the Gloria Estefan Barbies sold out quickly on the website. No surprise though. This doll is iconic.
