Las Vegas Nonprofits Offer Free Help To Families In Need
Project Homeless Connect is returning to Las Vegas to help the city’s most vulnerable families.
It’s an annual event that brings together multiple organizations to provide resources for Las Vegas area residents. Specifically those who live in Southern Nevada’s homeless and low-income populations. Project Homeless Connect does just what the name says. It’s provides connections between homeless individuals (or those at risk of being so) and the local organizations that can help them.
Nevada Homeless Alliance has hosted this event for 20 years, and are again partnering with the event this year. And over 100 local nonprofit organizations will also be at the event to offer help. Including Clark County Social Service, Salvation Army, Help of Southern Nevada, U.S. VETS, Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, and the Southern Nevada Health District and more.
Through the support of these organizations, those most vulnerable in the Las Vegas valley can get free assistance in many areas. Including assessments in their housing situations. And, if needed, referrals to shelters. Food assistance will be available to those who need it. As well as behavioral health resources. For those looking for work, there will also be job training programs.
Nevada’s largest medical school will be on site to offer free health screenings.
Touro University Nevada is also the state’s only school of osteopathic medicine, and has Nevada’s Physician Assistant program. Once again this year, Touro will be the medical partner at the event. Offering general wellness exams and screenings. Vaccines will also be available free of charge at this Las Vegas event. Including those for COVID-19 and the flu. Touro is also reaching out to dental and vision healthcare providers to offer those screenings to people in need.
Project Homeless Connect will be on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Cambridge Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Again, this is an annual event. So if you miss this one, you can get updates on when the next will be. By following the event at nevadahomelessalliance.org.
