National Take The Stairs Day is on January 10. And this year, Las Vegas is celebrating with a training kick off to one of the city's most awesome events.
It's the annual Scale The STRAT marathon. Actually, it's a STAIRathon. When people from all over come to Las Vegas to climb the stairs at the STRAT Hotel, Casino, and Tower. All 108 levels. If it sounds hard, that's because it is. Many of us at Beasley Media Group did it last year. Some of us just barely. ;)
But we are so excited to take part in the event this year. Because it's fun, it's challenging, and most importantly because it supports an amazing cause. Scale The STRAT is part of the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb series. This collection of events helps the American Lung Association raise funds for lung disease research, education, and advocacy.
We challenge all of Las Vegas to Scale The STRAT on Sunday, February 25, 2024. To support the American Lung Association and lung health.
And this is a great time to start training for the climb, while adopting healthier habits. It's as simple as skipping the elevator and taking the stairs at work, in your apartment complex, or even the next time you go to one of our local stadiums or resorts.
It's also a great time to register for the Scale The STRAT event. Because the American Lung Association is giving a $15 registration discount for two days only. Usually $35, participants can register during the promotion for just $20. All they have to do go to ScaleTheSTRAT.org and use the code TAKESTAIRS24.
The discount code is valid beginning January 10 until January 11, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. After that those who want to join can still register for the usual price. Registered climbers must also make a minimum fundraising pledge of $200 to support the cause. And personal fundraising coaching is available online and through Lung Association staff. So it's easier than you think.
Thank you to the STRAT Hotel, Casino, and Tower for donating their facility, staff and services for the event. And thank you to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for once again being the presenting sponsor at the event.

Mike O’Brian Actually Scaled The Strat: Fight For Air Climb
There are few moments that leave us in awe. And this was one of them.
Mike O'Brian from the Mike & Carla Morning Show Scaled the Strat . Yes. He actually did it. Now you may be asking yourself, what does this mean?
Well, let us explain. Every year, The American Lung Association's Nevada chapter hosts its annual "Fight For Air Stair Climb." This event raises awareness and money for lung disease research.
The mission is to climb the entirety of the Strat's staircase. While climbing on the steps, the rapid elevation change and the number of stairs leaves most attendees out of breath. Almost mirroring the experience of those who do suffer from lung conditions such as cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, COPD and more.
It wasn't easy for Mike O'Brian to Scale the Strat. Albeit, Mike is in great shape and works out everyday, the mental aspect of walking through the staircase with nothing but your determination and thoughts is what ultimately pushed him to finish the climb.
If you're interested in scaling the Strat, we definitely recommend everyone trying this challenge at least once in their life. This event is designed for every type of climber from beginner to competitive. It's up to you how you climb: you can race to the top or take it at your speed. You can even assemble your own climb crew!
Mike also Scaled the Strat with his fellow co-workers from Beasley Media Group's sister stations! He climbed the tower with Sammi Reeves and Shawn Tempesta from 102.7 VGS, Taya from Jammin' 105.7, Shawn Stevens and Ransom Garcia from 107.9 Coyote Country. It was truly a family affair.
Our mission at 96.3 KKLZ is to give back to our community. If you know anyone that is affected by a lung condition then we hope you take a few moments to recognize their strength and resilience. To fight for air is a fight that not many can do.
Thank you American Lung Association of Nevada for organizing this amazing event! We will see you all next year in 2024.
