$20,000 Worth Of Scratch Tickets Sent To Wrong Address

Imagine getting a knock at the door, and it’s the FedEx delivery man delivering a package filled with lottery scratch tickets! And imagine opening the package, and it’s $20,000 worth of lotto tickets. That’s what happened to this Massachusetts woman.

I Didn’t Order This. You Sure This Is Mine?

According to the Western Mass News, she said she looked at the receipt and it was scratch-off tickets. The worth of those scratch tickets were $20,000. She though it was all a joke.

Danielle said she asked herself, “What would happen if I kept these? Would I be able to sleep at night? I was asking those kind of things, and it was like ‘no,'” according to the Western Mass News.

She did the right thing and she returned the box of lotto tickets to the market. But what if she decided to not take them to the lotto office? What if Danielle decided to keep the tickets, scratch them all until she found the winning ticket?

If Alexandrov decided to keep the tickets and scratch them all, she would unfortunately not win anything. It’s not because she basically illegally opened a package not addressed to her. But, she scratched lotto tickets she didn’t pay for.

“The tickets have no value until they’re activated by a retail agent. If anyone tries to take one of the tickets to a retail location, they would be flagged, unable to cash the ticket.” Director of Communications at Massachusetts State Lottery Christian Teja said to the news outlet. Although the punishment for “stealing” lottery tickets very from state to state, many states have strict punishmennts and heft fines when it comes to lottery ticket theft. According to Feld Law Firm, stealing a lottery ticket in Iowa is a Class D felony and puts you at risk to face five years in prison and over $10,000 in fines.

Over the years, the Powerball Jackpot has broken the record as the largest in United States history. And every time it comes back around, Las Vegas residents are scrambling to find a place to buy a lottery ticket.

Most of us run down to Primm on the border of California, but the lines there get ridiculously long. Sometimes more than and hour, or worse. But since the lottery still isn’t legal in Nevada, there aren’t a lot of choices for locals who want to play.

Of course, many people who do win don’t want to wait for payments and instead choose to get paid all at once in a lump sum. Even though it’s significantly less money, it’s still amounts to a ton for the old bank account.
