The Legendary Huntridge Theater Is Coming Back…Again
It has been a fixture on East Charleston for decades here in Las Vegas, but the legendary Huntridge Theater is coming back! Just when you thought it was gone, done, ready to be torn down, it seems to have new life…again!
A historic theater here in Las Vegas since the mid-1940s when it opened as a movie theater. A theater that sat 950 movie goers, which at the time as a lot! Built on the land owned by the Hunt family here in Las Vegas, the theater has gone through many lives. As a movie theater and a “live” venue for upcoming bands.
But it was in 1993 that the building was finally added to the list of National Register of Historical Places. Preserving this building for years to come. Throughout the years, many of us who have lived in Las Vegas for a number of years have their own memories of the Huntridge Theater.
Whether it was going to the movies or seeing their favorite band before they actually hit it big! My own daughter Nicole practically lived at the place from 7th to 10th grade. Of course having to drop her off, then instructing her to meeting me back in that exact spot after the show.
It was risky of course, but sometimes, that’s what it takes to create those memories for a lifetime. Some of the bands she remembers seeing…Blink 182, Save Ferris, Social Disorder, and many more!
Just as many others in Las Vegas, we all have our memories of the Huntridge Theater. Through the years, I would be that those that call Las Vegas home has a few vivid memories of that building. Heck, I would venture to think it was the home for many first dates!
What’s next for the grand theater? Since the purchase of the theater by Las Vegas native J Dapper and partners in 2021, the future looks bright. The new owners expect revamp the are and add a 1,150 seat concert venue, a 450 seat off Broadway type venue and much more!
We seemingly live in a town that is famous for imploding old buildings. Take out the old, making room for the new. But one thing is for sure, this grand piece of Las Vegas architecture will live on!
