Work Pants From 1857 Sells For A Whopping $114,000
A sunken trunk from 1857 was recovered of the coast of North Carolina. When the trunk was opened up, it had a bunch of items, including a pair of work pants.
These pants are being described as the “oldest known pair of jeans in the world.” They’re white, heavy-duty miners pants that sport a five-button fly. This was just one of 270 gold rush-era artifacts that were found and sold at auction in Reno last weekend, brining in nearly $1 million dollars. The pair of work pants brought in a hug chunk of that total, selling for $114, 000!
There’s rumors and also disagreements that these pants could have ties to the father of modern-day blue jeans, Levi Strauss, but these pants predate by 16 years. The first pair of Levis were officially manufactured in 1873.
