Klondike Choco Taco Discontinues After 38 Years; See Why
The rumors were true: The Klondike Choco Taco is being discontinued – in stores, and the single-serving versions I chased after the ice cream truck for! Klondike says they’re making room for “new exciting innovations.” WHAT COULD BE MORE EXCITING THAN A CHOCOLATE TACO???
Rumors have been swirling that Unilever was discontinuing the Klondike Choco Taco, after a 38-year run – and now, they’ve confirmed it.
Klondike reps said, “We’re always updating our product portfolio to create new, exciting innovations that reflect consumer preferences and trends. A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes discontinue products in order to ensure we can offer the best variety nationwide.” Blah, blah, blah…
Not a huge shock for Choco Taco fans. Earlier this year, Klondike discontinued the four-pack, but at the time they implied that the single-serving would still be available in ice cream trucks and convenience stores. But now, they won’t be making those either – LIARS!
The Choco Taco was invented in Philadelphia in the early ’80s. It was available first in ice cream trucks and convenience stores in 1984, and in supermarkets in 1996.
Now, I don’t know if a full on eulogy is needed – yet. I think this could actually be one of those free publicity things, where a product is discontinued, then everyone freaks out and signs petitions, and then BOOM -the company brings it back with a bunch of fanfare! Oh, and also, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian Dear @Unilever — I'd like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations' childhoods. https://t.co/eXsmoR8kIV
The Choco Taco may not be dead for good, but if so, here are five things you might hear at The Choco Taco’s funeral:
5. He was always so chill.
4. My mom wanted to be here but she’s lactose intolerant.
3. Unlike so many of the others, he never had a stick up his…
2. Is he being buried, or cream-ated?
1. This better wrap up soon, he’s starting to ooze.
