Stevie Wonder Headlining Global Citizen Festival
The Global Citizen Festival is in its sixth year, and this year’s fest will be headlined by one of music’s biggest legends.
Stevie Wonder will headline the festival taking place September 23 on the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park.
In a statement on headlining the festival, Wonder said, “In this crucial time, there is nothing more exciting to me than having the honor of giving my gift of song, words and motivation to the Global Citizen Festival. When we commit ourselves to life issues, we are showing love of the Most High. I was, I am and will always be, a citizen connected to the spirit of everyone on this planet moving forward. Let’s go!”
The diverse bill also includes Green Day, The Lumineers, The Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day and Alessia Cara.
Per Global Citizen’s website, the festival’s goal is to encourage people the world over to get involved in causes and actions that bring awareness and help end extreme poverty “in the areas of education, food and hunger, health, gender equality, water and sanitation, and US foreign aid.”
The Global Citizen festival will be simulcast live on MSNBC and MSNBC.com.
