Celebrating The Anniversary of WKRP’s Famous Turkey Drop
It grew to be of iconic status, so that is why we’re celebrating the anniversary of WKRP’s famous “Turkey Drop”! We just had to before The Mike & Carla Morning Show took off for the long Thanksgiving Day weekend.
For those that might not remember, “WKRP In Cincinnati” was a quirky little sitcom that aired from the late 70s to the early 80s. It was about an AM radio station that went from playing beautiful music to Top 40 overnight. With a cast of characters that most radio people could actually relate to!
We Are Celebrating The Famous “Turkey Drop” on WKRP!
They offered up some great episodes, but the one that stands out to this day was the episode that featured “WKRP’s Turkey Drop!” It was titled “Turkeys Away”. If if you Google the show, this episode aired on November 22, 1978. A radio promotion that went just a bit awry.
From the setup to the actual drop to the final scene of the episode, a lot of radio people can relate. And for those that weren’t in radio, it gave you an inside look at how a promotion can go very wrong!
Heck, each episode of the show gave those from the outside an inside look at the workings of a radio station. According to an article put out by Cincinati.com, it gives you all you need to know about the show and more. Hugh Wilson, the creator, actually worked in radio in Atlanta and had more than enough material for the sitcom.
And with the show came a theme song! A song that became just as iconic as the show itself. So, for that reason, The M&C Morning Show salutes the show, the Thanksgiving Day episode and the song itself this morning.
