Wanted Florida Man Tricks Police With ‘Does Not Live Here’ Sign
The police wanted to arrest a Florida man named Johnny Yates for several things. Aggravated battery, false imprisonment and tampering charges, according to KRON 4. But Johnny tried to pull a stunt that seemed like it belonged in the movie “Idiocracy.”
Avoiding Police And Sheriff’s Department
Johnny tried to evade them by placing a dry erase board outside the home he was staying at. What did the dry erase board say? “Johnny Yates does NOT live here!” The Polk County Sheriff’s Office event posted a photo on Facebook, which you can see below. Well, that seems like a great way to deter the authorities. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
The Facebook post also read, “Gee…a dry-erase board never lied to us before, should we believe it?” Obviously joking about the situation.
While outside, the deputies saw a person leave the property. They approached the person and asked if Johnny lived in the property. The person told them Johnny was inside with several other people. Using a megaphone, they yelled for Yates to come out of the home. They tried for hours but he refused to come out of the residence, so they used smoke to get all the residents in the home out. All came out but Yates.
Send In The Hounds
The Sheriff’s Department saw no signs of Yates, so they sent in their K9 to search the home. The dog found Yates, who was hiding in a chest that he modified to fit himself in.
Yates was taken into custody. They also arrested four others in the home for not cooperating with authorities.
The Facebook post by the sheriff’s office further said, “One of the worst things about being a cop is you always have to be open to the possibility that people are going to lie to you.” In this case, a dry erase board telling you the person you’re looking for doesn’t live there. Obviously the Sheriff’s Department knew better than to believe a hand written sign.
