What Shania Twain Might Have In Common With Katy Perry
What Shania Twain and Katy Perry might have in common is Shania’s new song and a song that Katy Perry put out almost 15 years ago. Shania teased it earlier this week, but now we have all of Shania Twain’s newest song, “Waking Up Dreaming”! The Mike & Carla Morning Show shared a clip of the new song that was dropped today, but it also made us think of another song!
Carla Rea quickly noticed that Shania’s new song is quite similar sounding to a song put out in 2008 by Katy Perry…
Now we understand that this is not unusual that two songs might sound similar, oh it’s not the first time this has happened…dating back to the early 80’s when former Beatle George Harrison was ordered to pay over half a million dollars for evidently subconsciously copying the melody of his song “My Sweet Lord” from the 1961 hit from The Chiffons, “He’s So Fine”!
Now keep in mind, Shania’s song just came out, but it is a little weird that right off the bat, Carla would notice the similarity of the two songs…and even the titles. Shania’s song is titled “Waking Up Dreaming” and the Katy Perry song “Waking Up In Las Vegas”.
Even in today’s pop music, comparisons of songs still happens…listen, we understand that there are only so many chords and melodies available when it comes to writing songs and sooner or later it’s gonna happen, this just might be the latest example…who knows! Heck, others might say the two songs sound nothing alike…listen to both and you decide!
The M&C Morning Show also shared a sample of the new song by The Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated to the late, great Eddie Van Halen. It’ll be on their forth coming album entitled “Return of the Dream Canteen” due out October 14th.
