Henderson Little League Team Stays Alive In World Series
The Henderson Little League team is still alive in the Little League Baseball World Series® taking place this week in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Teams from all over the world are competing for this annual championship. Updated Monday 8/21/23 at 3:44pm.
Here’s How They’ve Done So Far
After rolling through the Little League Baseball Mountain Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, California without a loss, Henderson is facing tougher competition. So far in the double-elimination World Series tournament, they have two victories. However, they lost their first game to the team from Rhode Island. The tiniest state in the USA represents the Metro Region.
Rhode Island took down our local team by a score of 3-1 behind a masterful pitching performance by Connor Curtis. He struck out 15 Henderson batters in five and one-third innings. Henderson’s only hit was a home run to center field in the fifth inning by Jaxson McMullin. You can watch the game highlights on LittleLeague.org by clicking here.
How The Henderson Little League Team Is “Stayin’ Alive”
For one thing, I doubt the players on this team even know who the Bee Gees are. Moreover, they’re not even old enough to watch an R-rated movie like Saturday Night Fever without parental supervision. But, they sure know how to play baseball!
With their backs against the wall, they cannot afford to lose another game or they are out of the World Series. So, after dropping their first game against Rhode Island, they had to pull out a victory on Saturday against the team from Ohio. Henderson put up ten runs in the second inning against the team representing the Great Lakes region. They would go on to win 13-2. You can watch the game highlights by clicking here.
Then on Sunday, in another must-win situation, they faced the team from North Dakota. Henderson’s offense led the way again, romping to a 7-1 victory over the team representing the Midwest region. Nolan Gifford smacked his second homer in two days. You can watch the game highlights by clicking here.
Henderson’s next game is Tuesday, August 22nd at Noon Pacific Time. They’ll be battling the team from Tennessee who represent the Southeast region.. You can see how the brackets are playing out by clicking here.
